Each year in France alone, more than 100,000 dogs and cats are abandoned by their owners. A figure that places our country at the top of European ranks. It is during summer, in the period preceding the waves of vacation departures, that dropouts are most numerous. It is estimated that they amount to almost 60,000 in our country alone.
This phenomenon extends to most European countries and other so-called developed continents where the pet is considered a consumer good.
It was to alert and raise awareness among the general public, institutions and politicians that World Day Against Pet Abandonment was launched in 2019, the date of the first edition.
